AUSTONLEY IRISH WOLFHOUNDS & WHITE SWISS SHEPHERD DOGS
We live in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, UK. We got our first Irish Wolfhound 8 years ago and she changed our lives. We began showing at Championship & Open Shows and decided we would like to breed our own Wolfhounds to show. Showing is our hobby, living with our hounds is our life.
Austonley (pronounced Ostonley) is an area of Holmfirth, here my husband grew up and it is now central to where we walk our Wolfhounds at least twice a day. It has everything needed to exercise these big powerful hounds. Woodland, moorland, river and reservoir walks, with 90% off lead. Plus we are surrounded by tons of dog friendly pubs for some very serious doggy socialising.
We decided the name was apt, they are Austonley Irish Wolfhounds.
We currently have 11 Wolfhounds. Bella, Ragnar, Bigfoot, Lena, Fame, Geronimo, Hilary, Inca, January, Wilson II & Booby. All live in our home as part of our family and all go out on walks and visit pubs!!! Our wolfhounds do not live their entire lives in kennels, barns or stables.
Bella was imported from Italy, we drove to Paris to pick her up from a train station right in the centre.
Ragnar is our first home bred wolfhound from our ‘A Litter’ (mum is Cilla). Bigfoot and Lena are brother and sister from our ‘B Litter’ (mum is Bella). Celeste, our ‘C Litter’ pup (Ragnar and Tayla) died at 18 months old of pneumonia. Fame (‘E Litter’) is daughter of Bigfoot and Cilla. Geronimo from our ‘G Litter’, he is our first Austonley X Austonley mating (Ragnar and Lena). We then repeated this mating and we Kept Hilary. Inca is from our first AI Mating, her mum is Fame and her dad (Quaros) was 7 years old when she was born. Hilary is from another Ragnar X Lena mating. Are you confused!!!!!? Believe me, it was far more time consuming and complicated than I can fit in to one paragraph.
We keep in touch with all the puppies we have bred and if need be would take back any puppy at any stage in their life. We offer lifetime support and advice to all their new owners. We have made some very good friends through homing wolfhounds in only the best homes we can find.
And….. not forgetting THE OTHERS!!!!!!! We have 4 year old Salad (Whippet), 2 year old ZZ (White Swiss Shepherd Dog) and we adopted the nutty Bentley, a lurcher that was taken to the vets, by his owner, to be put to sleep. Bentley had a broken foot, the vet managed to save his foot but he will always have a limp!

We also spend a lot of time in busy social situations and most importantly all our pack live in our home. Our hounds need to be sound in Body & Mind. Which is why we personally chose to feed Hypoallergenic and Grain Free Recipes. We also have numerous meats and fish recipes, potato, sweet potato and rice recipes plus single source protein recipes to help identify and eliminate problem ingredients.
